1 dead in Polk County mobile home fire, authorities say

Authorities say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Polk County Fire Rescue says the found 1 person dead.

LAKE ALFRED, Fla. — One person is dead after a mobile home went up in flames at an RV park in Lake Alfred, according to Polk County Fire Rescue.

Authorities say they responded to a structure fire at 1:51 a.m. Monday at the Lakeview RV Park, located off of 1640 Hwy. 12-92.

Polk County Fire Rescue says they received assistance from the Lake Alfred Fire Department, Haines City Fire Department, Auburndale Fire Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal Office.

After the first fire rescue unit arrived, they found a mobile home located on Lot No. 8 that was on fire. Crews say they were unable to make initial entry due to the volume of the flames.

Authorities say it happened at the Lakeview RV Park.

Once the fire was taken out, investigators were able to search inside the home. That's when investigators say they found one person dead.

“Our thoughts go out to the family as they mourn the loss of their loved one," Polk Fire Rescue Chief Hezedean A. Smith said in a statement.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
